Restore a user removed via SCIM

In this article, you will learn :

  • What happens when a user is removed from a Sherpany room via SCIM
  • How to restore access in this case
  • Why it's important to follow the exact steps

For information, this process only applies if your organisation is managing users in Sherpany via SCIM user provisioning (e.g. from Entra ID, Okta, etc.).

What happens when a user is removed via SCIM ?

Each time a user is added to a Sherpany room, a new membership is created. If the user is removed from the room (e.g. via SCIM), that membership becomes inactive.

If the user is re-added, a new membership (Membership A) is created. However, this new membership does not include the previous access rights or history (e.g. past meetings, tasks).

To restore the user's original permissions and content, Sherpany Support must manually reactivate the previous membership (Membership B).

How to restore access for the user ?

Follow these steps to properly restore access:

  1. Re-add the user in your User Management System: make sure the user is added again to the correct group (e.g. in Entra ID or Okta). This step is essential to re-establish SCIM synchronisation and will automatically create a new membership (Membership A). Please note: at this point, the user does not yet have access to previous content.
  2. Contact Sherpany Support: send an email to support@sherpany.com and include the following:
  • The user’s email address

  • The name of the Sherpany room

  • The date/time. Optional but helpful when:

    • The user was removed (Membership B deactivated)

    • The user was re-added (Membership A created)

Request that Sherpany Support:

  • Deactivates the new membership (Membership A)

  • Reactivates the previous membership (Membership B)

This step will restore the user’s original permissions and content.

Why is it important to re-add the user in your SCIM group ?

Re-adding the user to the appropriate SCIM group ensures that future synchronisation works correctly.

If the user is not part of the SCIM group, they may remain in the Sherpany room even after being removed from your identity provider, which could lead to access issues later.
