Assistants with User Provisioning SCIM (when managed by your organisation)

Note

This article is only relevant for organisations where user management in Sherpany is blocked.

In this article, you will learn:

  • What user provisioning options are available in Sherpany
  • What workaround we recommend
  • How to remove a user with user provisioning

What user provisioning options are available?

  • Manual creation
Users are manually added to Sherpany via the User Management tab. During this process, the assistant can be directly assigned to another user.
  • Automated provisioning via SCIM (e.g. Entra ID)
Users are automatically provisioned in Sherpany through your Identity Management System using the SCIM interface.

Information

Assistants are officially not supported with SCIM. A user created over SCIM gets the permission “User (with restricted permission)”. This permission can not be “downgraded” to assistants, and we cannot provide the information about the user the assistant should be attached to via SCIM.

Recommended workaround

If you need to set up an assistant while using SCIM, follow these steps:

  1. User is added to the Enterprise application ‘Sherpany’ in Entra ID (not the specific group)

  2. The user is created via the SCIM interface in Sherpany, but not added to a room → This also automatically creates the link to the customers Entra ID (user origin). Additionally, with this connection, the user will be removed from all rooms in Sherpany in case the user is not working with the company anymore.

  3. The Administrator of the room creates the user in the room manually with the ‘Assistant’ permission and assigns the user to the corresponding user.

Please note

The user is not reflected in the Entra ID group. This means, if the user should be removed from the room, the user needs to be deleted in the Sherpany room manually.

How do I remove a user from a room with user provisioning?

If you want to remove a user from a room, please follow the process outlined below:

  1. Requesting user removal: to remove a user from a Sherpany room, please submit the request through your internal User Management System. For guidance on the process, contact your designated Sherpany contact within your organization.
  2. User removal: once approved, the user will be automatically removed from the Sherpany room.
